Jyväskylä is a dynamic and lively city, which on the basis of its specializations promotes itself as the Human Technology City. The City of Jyväskylä is the seventh largest city in Finland with 131.000 residents. It is famous for its achievements in science and technology, its high-quality cultural activities and beautiful natural environment. Jyväskylä is also a very youthful city with almost 30.000 students.
Jyväskylä is a university city. It hosts one of the largest Finnish multidisciplinary universities with a total of seven faculties. University of Jyväskylä is a well-known international scientific center where students and scientists from all parts of the world work in a friendly and thoughts supporting atmosphere.
The Faculty of Information Technology is the first and largest IT faculty in Finland. Information Systems Science has been taught at the University of Jyväskylä since 1967. At the Department of Mathematical Information Technology, information technology is studied from the perspective of natural sciences. Here, studies are based upon strong knowledge in modern applied mathematics and participation in industrial projects. Special attention is also being given to research training in addition to both international and national co-operation.
How to reach Jyväskylä?
The Jyväskylä Region can be reached easily by road, rail and air. Jyväskylä forms a crossroads for Finland's main highways, which has helped it become an increasingly important centre for road transport.
There are daily flights from the capital city Helsinki to Jyväskylä. Using the Pendolino fast train, the journey from Helsinki to Jyväskylä can be accomplished in 3.5 hours. The train connections are excellent; there are approximately 18 daily connections between Helsinki and Jyväskylä. There is also a simple connection by bus just in front of the Helsinki-Vantaa airport terminal to Jyväskylä. This connection may require a change of bus.
Finland can be reached also by superior-standard ferries from Germany, Sweden and Estonia. The ferries arrive either in Helsinki or Turku, from where there are good connections to Jyväskylä by train.
How to reach Jämsä?
Using the Pendolino or Inter City fast trains, Jämsä can reached from Helsinki by 3 hours, and from Jyväskylä by the same line on 30 mins. Since Jämsä is on the way to Jyväskylä, there are plenty connections per day.
Airport
Jyväskylä city has a local airport connected with Helsinki airport by several flights a day.
The biggest international airport is situated in Helsinki, Vantaa. There are several flights daily from Helsinki to Jyväskylä and vice versa. Flights are operated chiefly by the national carrier Finnair. The flight from Helsinki to Jyväskylä takes about 35 minutes and the drive from the airport to the centre of Jyväskylä roughly 20 minutes. Taxi to the airport has to be reserved beforehand from number +3581006900.
The nearest international airport is situated in Tampere, 2 hours drive from Jyväskylä. SAS and Blue1 have three daily connections to Stockholm and two to Copenhagen. Ryanair has four connections to Bremen, Milan, Dublin, Frankfurt, and London each week.

Workshop venue
The workshop is planned to be organaized at the Särkisaari camping center. It is located on the Särkisaari island on the lake Päijänne. The total area, i.e., 17 acres of the island, is connected to the land by a bridge. The distance from island to the center of Jämsä is approximately 18 kms, and 52 kms from center of Jyväskylä. The beautiful nature, comfortable and modern conference and banqueting facilities are excellent for the event. Main building of the camping was designed by architect Antti Eskelinen in 1978. Lakeside sauna was completed in 1993-2001.
Transportation will be arranged by organizers both from Jämsä and Jyväskylä on 2nd of August in the evening and 3rd of August in the morning. The costs for the transfers to the camping sight and back is included to the registration fee.
Accommodation costs for shared rooms (including breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are 186 EUR and must be paid on arrival by participants.
