Potku is an analysis application developed for the Accelerator based materials physics research group at the University of Jyväskylä. It was developed in 2013 by a software project of the same name. The application includes a graphical user interface that makes it easy to analyze data produced by a recoil spectrometer. Using the data, the application can be used to plot a time-of-flight-energy (Tof-E) histogram. The application also includes tools that can be used for more thorough analysis of the histogram.
Monisiro project further developed the application by extending it with MCERD, a Monte Carlo simulation software developed by Kai Arstila. Using MCERD one can simulate the measurements used in accelerator based materials physics. Multiple and plural scattering complicates interpreting the results of measurement analysis. With the help of the simulation, it is possible to take multiple and plural scattering into account in the measurement by comparing these two. Monisiro project also did changes to the application's UI, save files and class structure.
The project was started with the update of the Python interpreter and libraries used by the application. In the later part of the project easy-to-use install files for the application were created, with the aim to lower the threshold to take the application in to use.
